After getting in touch, the usual process for getting a quote for a staircase renovation is that we agree a suitable date and time when I can come out and take a look at your requirements. It is useful to meet all the people in the house that are involved in the decision making for your staircase project so that I can talk over options and show you samples.
When I arrive, we will discuss what you’re looking to achieve and explore the possibilities for your hallway. We will then look over some samples of parts which I carry with me to every visit to make sure they’re in line with your expectations.
Finally, I will then go away and work out the price and aim to email this to you within 10 days. I very rarely give a price on the spot as I price every staircase renovation on its own situation.
I can take out all newel posts and replace them. Some are more difficult than others but generally it is much better to swap them so they can be reset in position to make the job a better finish and much safer.
A full staircase renovation will usually take around a week on average. Though for smaller jobs, these can take anything from a day to a couple of days.
If you’re having under stairs storage too, this can take anything from 3 days up to 2 weeks for more elaborate solutions, such as those that incorporate wine racks with glass fronts.
No, I do not. I can’t work on the wood and get the finish I feel is good enough if I can’t manipulate and work on the parts and make bespoke items to fit the renovation on site.
Almost all of my staircases are sprayed on site by masking off the area and providing ventilation extraction while it’s sprayed. The small inconvenience of this gives a far better finish.
Yes, everything is made by me on site. This includes the shaker style doors that I can make on site to perfectly match the space and angles on your staircase.
Yes you can use the staircase the whole time I’m working and in an evening while I’m not there.
The strings are a main structural component of a staircase. These cannot be changed without removing the entire staircase. However, the option of cladding the strings with timber such as oak can give the appearance of a new staircase. This also reduces the need for lengthy and what can be obstructive work replacing the whole stairs.
During this process there is also the option for the installation of inbuilt LED string lights. These can be on one or both sides to give your staircase a unique and standout feature.
The carpet on and around staircases in many circumstances will not be affected by the renovation of an existing staircase. However, in most of staircase renovations, they will need to be removed for safety and access reasons. If the carpet does need to be removed, it will be able to be refitted once your project is complete.
In many houses it is possible to renovate an existing staircase without disturbing the decorations. This may present some limiting factors that would be brought to your attention during my initial visit and options explored.
